Rebuilding the bathrooms after water damage

This bathroom restoration was part of a larger water-damage project in Bellevue's Northup area. The homeowner came to Bezruchuk Inc. through a previous client's recommendation. She wanted the damaged parts of her home repaired carefully, with a finished result she could feel good about.

The bathrooms needed work around the tub, shower, floors and walls. We retained the wood vanity cabinets and replaced their countertops. That decision kept a familiar part of the rooms while allowing the new tile and counters to change their appearance.

The before view below is from after mitigation, when the bathtub had been removed and the lower part of the alcove was open. The finished view follows the same alcove with the tub in place, new tile around it and a small corner shelf. It is one part of the complete Bellevue basement restoration, which also covered the surrounding rooms, hall and closets.

02 / What we kept

Keeping the wood vanities and replacing the countertops

The vanity cabinets were not new. We kept the existing wood cabinetry and installed Pental Lumen Sky quartz countertops. The wood grain still gives the bathrooms their warmth, while the lighter tops work with the beige tile and painted walls.

In the double-sink bathroom, the countertop runs along the vanity beneath a broad mirror. The two sinks have room between them, and the cabinet doors and drawers remain part of the original vanity. From the doorway, the light counter provides a clear edge above the darker wood.

Keeping cabinetry also means working carefully around it. During paint preparation, the mirror was masked and the floor was protected. The finish work around the cabinet, counter and wall needed to look complete even though those elements were not all being replaced together.

03 / Tub and shower

Beige tile around the bathtub and through the shower

The bathtub alcove has tile on three sides, with horizontal veining running across the wall faces. A corner shelf provides a place to put bathing products. The white tub sits against that warmer tile without introducing another strong color into the room.

The separate shower uses clear glass so the tile remains visible from outside the enclosure. Inside, the wall tile continues down to a small square mosaic floor. A square drain sits within the mosaic, and a tiled threshold separates the shower from the bathroom floor.

The contrast between the larger wall pieces and the smaller shower-floor tiles adds detail without making the bathroom busy. The walls, floors and countertops stay close in color, leaving the retained wood cabinetry as the strongest warm element.

The tile and countertop selections

The bathroom tile selections were Gravitate GVT20 Beige and Lost River HDP glazed porcelain. Pental Lumen Sky quartz was used for the replacement vanity countertops. These were the same bathroom selections used in the larger home restoration.

We kept the overall finish scheme quiet: beige tile, light counters, wood cabinets and white trim. That combination connects the bathrooms to the warm paint colors elsewhere in the basement. The change comes from the new surfaces and finished details around the cabinetry, rather than a different cabinet style.
